Let The People Go

OK posts on consecutive days - yes, I'm a bit bored. Here's a seriously arse-kicking roots tune from Milton Henry, aka Ras Midas: 'Let The People Go'.  It's quite a good follow up to 'Economical Crisis'  - just listen to the lyrics - I would've liked to have posted Junior Delahaye's 'Working Hard For The Rent Man' too but it's just been reissued.

Incidentally, I've always wondered what the connection to the Universal Life Church was.

Thanks again. Listening now mixed with sounds of the hurricane passing overhead...

Give Thanks for posting! But actually Ras Midas and Milton Henry are two different performers! I know both of them personally!

My ignorance is exposed, and not for the first time :) Thanks for the correction Raszinn!

Milton Henry also recorded as King Midous or Medious(on "This World", produced by Lee Perry) which I suspect explains your confusion

Also, Fane Opperman is a very curious figure. aged 14 he was drummer in utterly obscure Minneapolis band the Skeptics. By the mid-70s he owned and ran a 24 track studio in Santa Cruz, California, where he engineered a long-forgotten LP called "Orthodox" by the Rastafarians. He's now about 60 and a voting member of the Grammys panel. His elder brother Vance is incredibly wealthy and a former Radical with very important connections to the US Democrats.

It's pretty clear why Harry J would want to hitch his wagon to Fane's train. Keith L'Hommedieu (the man of God), the other credited writer, was born in 1945 and was a member of the Universal Life Church, who were also the oranisation behind the Rastafarians Lp mentioned above.

@ Steve: You're not ignorant Bro, just wanted to clarify! Thanks for all you do here! And yes Milton did record as King Medious! That was Scratch's idea because Milton was into this charachter in one of the Books Of Moses! He also was called Milton Morris by Scratch on his first solo recording! And by the way he sang in The Progressions and The Emotions as well as The Leaders! Bless!

@Blessup: Maybe ignorance was the wrong word - I was just trying to say that I appreciate the info. If you're wrong I reckon it's better to be told so than just have people standing around nodding their heads and going 'Hmm, uh-huh'.

I don't really know much about the background to the music I post about, so when people like you and the Voice Of Reason share your knowledge it adds a lot to the blog.

Hail up Voice of Reason and Rusty, maybe I'll just ask Midas myself next time I see him on the streets of Satta Crucial! I know plenty of folks around town who were down w/ the Rastafarians.

btw Steve, your knowledge is not really that lacking unless you compare yourself to Rodigan or Penny Reel.
